What is a quote expiration date?

A quote expiration date is the last day on which a seller commits to honor the prices and terms stated in a quote.

How quote expiration works

The date is printed on the quote, often as "valid until" or "valid for 30 days." Until then the buyer can accept the offer as written. After it, the seller is free to requote.

Sellers set expiration dates for practical reasons:

  • Costs, inventory and capacity change
  • Promotional pricing is tied to a period
  • Open offers with no end date are hard to forecast

There are two common outcomes at the deadline. Either the whole quote lapses, or a limited-time discount ends and the price returns to the regular rate while the quote stays open.

A hypothetical example

This is a hypothetical example. Sample City Media Group quotes a fictional advertiser $9,000 per month for a campaign, with a launch offer of $8,100 per month if the advertiser signs by June 30. On July 1 the quote is still available, but at $9,000 per month.

Common mistakes

  • No date at all. The buyer may try to accept an old price months later.
  • A deadline with no reason. Explain what changes and why. Arbitrary pressure costs trust.
  • Extending every time. If the date always moves, buyers stop believing it.
  • Relying on a manual follow-up. The buyer should see the deadline on the quote itself.

forquotez supports quote expiration and limited-time pricing with a countdown on the prospect's quote. When the deadline passes, prices roll back to the regular rate. For the reminder email, use the quote expiration message generator.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a quote be valid?

Long enough for the buyer to complete a normal approval process and short enough that your costs and capacity are unlikely to change. Many B2B sellers choose between two weeks and 30 days.

What happens after a quote expires?

The seller is no longer committed to the quoted price. You can reissue the quote, change it or extend the date.
